WAUKESHA. Wis. – Dresser Waukesha, a leading manufacturer of spark-ignited, gaseous-fueled engines, is partnering with its sister company, Dresser Wayne, an innovator of retail fuel dispensers and technologies, to supply engines that will drive compressors in CNG (compressed natural gas) filling stations in Thailand.
In the first collaborative effort by the two Dresser businesses, Dresser Waukesha will supply 12 VGF® engines which will be packaged with Dresser Wayne’s Cubogas™ compression systems at the company’s facility in Talamona, Italy. The packaged compression units will be shipped from Italy to Thailand and are scheduled for installation later this year at new filling stations in and around Bangkok.
“We’ve specialized in clean burning natural gas engines for decades,” said Lloyd Beauchamp, vice president of sales for Dresser Waukesha, “and we’re pleased to participate in a project that supports a transportation infrastructure for the people of Thailand using this same plentiful, environmentally friendly fuel.”
The new stations will help meet the increased demand for CNG. In Thailand, as in many other developing countries, the number of cars powered by CNG has grown rapidly in response to concerns about the environment, fluctuating gasoline prices, the accessibility of natural gas and consumer subsidies. However, at present, there aren't enough fueling stations to meet the demand for natural gas, so users often wait in long lines to fill their tanks.
The new stations, equipped with large engine-driven compression units, are designed for high volume and will service more customers more quickly. The stations are so-called “mother” stations that will also fill tanker trucks that will, in turn, supply smaller stations. The Waukesha engines, known for their reliable operation and fuel flexibility, will be fueled by methane and will provide back-up power for the compressor systems.
“This accelerated transition to CNG as a reliable alternative fuel for all kinds of vehicles presents significant new opportunities for Dresser Wayne and Dresser Waukesha to collaborate to meet an emerging need,” said Paolo Petracchi, vice president of CNG for Dresser Wayne, "It is also an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Dresser’s capabilities to ‘bundle’ various products to provide integrated solutions.”
Supported by its distributor Souer Ltd. of Bangkok, Dresser Waukesha already has numerous gas engines in use in Thailand, all along the gas infrastructure, from well head to fuel nozzle.
